Panthers Surge Past Tornados in Second-Half Run, 73-57

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (1-1) fell in its first road contest of 2022, dropping a 73-57 contest to Greenville University (1-0) on Friday evening at the Mountaintop Madness in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. 

Olivia Miller, a freshman from Hudson, North Carolina, scored a career-high 18 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field while also totaling four rebounds, four steals, and two blocks. Makenna Parkins added 11 points and nine rebounds with four steals as well, while Naliyah Boyce recorded a career-best 14 points and five rebounds off the bench for the Nados. Makayla Street sprinkled in eight points as well, while Lexi Shepard totaled six steals, five rebounds, and five assists in an all-around effort. 

The Panthers had three players in double figures, with Madelyn Stephen totaling a game-high 19 points. 

The Tornados and Panthers were near-even on field goal percentage, but Greenville made eight 3-pointers to Brevard's one proving to be a key difference in the contest. Greenville out-rebounded Brevard 42-32. 

Greenville took a 19-12 lead after the first quarter before the Tornados stormed back, totaling 20 points in the second period to tie things up, 32-32, heading to the break. However, a 21-9 run in the third stanza gave Greenville a 12-point cushion, 53-41, as the Panthers were able to control the contest from there to earn the 16-point victory, 73-57. 

The Tornados conclude action at Mountaintop Madness on Saturday vs. Anderson University (Indiana) at 2 p.m.
