Staff Highlight Series: Head Women's Basketball Coach Donald Hudson

BREVARD, N.C. - Throughout the Fall, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be highlighting its staff members in a tri-weekly Staff Highlight Series, giving members of the Athletic Administration and Coaching Staff the opportunity to introduce themselves to the BC community through a series of questions and biographical elements.

Next up in BC's Staff Highlight Series is Brevard College Head Women's Basketball Coach Donald Hudson, a former two-sport student-athlete (Basketball & Football) at Brevard College.

bctornados.com: What has been your favorite professional memory?

Coach Hudson: My favorite professional memory has to be back in 2016 when I found out that I would be the Interim Head Coach of the women's basketball team. Later that season, in February, the interim tag was removed and one of my dreams came true. I was named Head Coach of the women's basketball team at Brevard College.

bctornados.com: What makes Brevard College a special place?

Coach Hudson: There are multiple reasons why Brevard is such a special place, but at the top of the list has to be the people here and in the community. I have been a member of the Brevard College family since 2006 and I have been blessed to meet and maintain relationships with some great people. Whether it be the lifelong friendships that were formed as a student, or the tremendous colleagues that I've had the pleasure of working with, Brevard has introduced me to some amazing people.

bctornados.com: Who has been the biggest influence in your professional career?

Coach Hudson: Having the support of my family has been huge for me and my career. The support system that I have from my family is not taken lightly - I would not be here if it were not for them. Along with my family, I have also been privileged to play for and coach with some amazing coaches that have helped me get to where I am.

bctornados.com: What is some advice you would give to young people looking to get into the profession?

Coach Hudson: Be a selfless person, be willing to put others - and the common goal - ahead of yourself. Don't get so caught up in the wins and losses that you forget the ultimate goal of a coach is to develop high character people that can contribute to society in a positive manner. In the long run, that will be the biggest win you can get.

Head Coach Donald Hudson enters his fifth season at the helm of the BC Tornados Women's Basketball program after leading the program to back-to-back double-digit win seasons, including a 2017-18 squad that finished with an NCAA-era best 12-13 record.

Hudson enters his ninth year overall working for Brevard College Athletics, as Hudson began his coaching career following his graduation from Brevard in 2011. Hudson was part of both the football and basketball programs.

Hudson also enjoyed a very successful playing career while a student-athlete at Brevard College. During his 2009-10 season at Brevard, Hudson was an integral part of the men's basketball team that captured the program's first-ever bid into an NCAA tournament at the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship, going 21-10 overall and 10-6 in league games.
