Brevard Concludes Season with Victory on Senior Day

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (9-15) concluded the 2019-20 season with a 56-52 victory over Pfeiffer (11-14) on Saturday afternoon's Senior Day at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Point guard Ty'She Washington led all players with 22 points and 10 rebounds en route to a double-double.  Washington scored 10 of her 22 points in the decisive fourth quarter as she went 4-for-4 from the field and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc in the final stanza.  In total for the contest, the Charlotte, North Carolina native shot 9-for-14 from the field and 4-for-4 from three-point range.

Junior forward Destiny Williams also scored in double figures with a 14-point performance that also included seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.

Seniors Krysta Davis and Elaina Perez were both honored in a pre-game ceremony before productive final games in a Tornado uniform.  Davis played 28 minutes, pulling down nine rebounds to go along with two points and an assist.  Perez matched her career-high with five rebounds while scoring four points and delivering two assists.

Pfeiffer controlled the action for most of the first quarter and led BC 23-15 after the opening period.

The Tornados, however, were firing on all cylinders to start the second quarter, rattling off an 11-2 scoring run to take a 26-25 lead with 5:30 to play until intermission.  A made three-pointer by Shakirah Thompson started the run which continued with a jumper by Taryn Ledford following an offensive rebound by Breana Ware.  An Avery Lockwood jumper off a Thompson assist helped the continue the onslaught which concluded with buckets by Washington and Williams.

In total, the Tornados outscored the Falcons 21-7 in the second period to take a 36-30 lead into halftime.  BC made three 3-pointers and recorded assists on six-of-nine made field goals in the period to enable offensive output.  The defensive performance was equally impressive as Brevard held Pfeiffer to 2-of-9 shooting from the field while forcing four turnovers in the stanza.

The pendulum swung back to the Falcons however in the third quarter as Pfeiffer outscored BC 13-6 in the period to take a one-point lead into the fourth.

Led by Washington's 10 points in the final quarter, the Tornados produced a 14-9 advantage in the decisive fourth period.  Pfeiffer struggled from beyond the arc in the final period, going 0-for-6 from the three-point line.  BC, on the other hand, was able to deliver when it mattered most taking a 54-50 lead on a Washington three-pointer with 2:57 remaining followed by a made jumper by Deja Riddick to put the Tornados up by six points.

Pfeiffer would score at the 1:58 mark to cut the deficit to four points.  However, the Falcons would be held scoreless from that point forward, missing their last six field-goal attempts.

The 2019-20 season concluded with Head Coach Donald Hudson's club going 9-15 overall and 5-11 in the USA South Conference.  The Tornados played their best basketball late in the season, going 4-2 in the month of February to wrap up the season.
