LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Brevard College Women's Basketball team (8-14, 5-10 USAS) fell 46-44 in a tightly contested USA South Conference matchup at Covenant (9-14, 6-8) on Saturday evening in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.

The start of the contest was delayed three hours due to weather and road conditions as the Tornados wrapped up a two-game conference road trip with a split at Agnes Scott and Covenant.

Brevard was led by junior forward Destiny Williams who registered nine points to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals.  Point guard Ty'She Washington scored eight points with a team-high four assists.  Junior Taryn Ledford hit two three-pointers en route to eight points.

Covenant was led by double-figure scoring efforts from Margo Koby (11 pts), Ruthie Moore (11 pts) and Cosette Kirsch (10 pts).

The Tornados opened the game with a strong first quarter led by junior forward Deja Riddick who scored all five of her points in the opening stanza. BC jumped out to an 11-2 lead over the first 4:20 of the contest as Riddick created her own scoring opportunity off a steal followed by a three-pointer. Williams then recorded a steal and a layup in another sequence to cap off the opening scoring barrage.

Covenant answered with an 8-0 run of its own before two made free throws by BC's Victoria Green would give the Tornados a 13-10 advantage at the end of the first period.

BC opened the second period with another run, outscoring the Scots 10-0 over the first 3:47 to take the largest lead of the game at 23-10.  Covenant would then outscore Brevard 15-6 for the rest of the period as the Tornados went into the break with a 29-25 lead.

The third and fourth quarters proved to be defensive struggles.  The Scots outscored BC 10-7 in the third period and in turn trailed by just one point heading into the final period.

Covenant took its first lead of the game, 37-36, at the 7:18 mark of the fourth quarter.  Ledford however answered with two consecutive three-pointers to twice retake the lead for the Tornados.  Two Covenant free throws gave the Scots a 45-44 lead with 2:44 to play.  BC had multiple opportunities down the stretch to hit an eventual game-winner but was unable to convert.  Convent the hit one final free throw to take the low-scoring 46-44 win

Both teams struggled from the field with Brevard (27%) slightly outshooting Covenant (21%) with each team hit six three-pointers. The free-throw line proved to be a huge factor as Brevard made just six trips to the charity stripe, hitting all six attempts.  Covenant, however, attempted 24 free throws, converting 18.

Brevard returns to action on Wednesday, February 15 vs. Piedmont in the Play4Kay Game at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on the campus of Brevard College.
