DECATUR, Ga. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (8-13, 5-9 USAS) escaped Decatur, Georgia with a 51-41 victory over the Agnes Scott Scotties (0-23, 0-14 USAS) on Friday evening.

Agnes Scott took part in the USA South Conference's #BlockOutCancer program, a conference-wide initiative honoring Greensboro College Women's Basketball Head Coach Randy Tuggle and his fight against pancreatic cancer. Both teams joined at center court for a photo pregame to honor Tuggle and the #BlockOutCancer program.

Ty'She Washington led the way for Brevard with 13 points, four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. The junior point guard from Charlotte, North Carolina drilled a team-high five field goals en route to her 13-point performance. Destiny Williams joined Washington in double-figures with 12 points, while securing a team-high eight rebounds and four steals, while Deja Riddick put up eight points and five boards. Junior guard Shakirah Thompson swiped three steals in the contest to go along with five points.

Agnes Scott was led by way of Garis Grant's double-double effort of 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Scotties were able to outshoot the Tornados from the field, 34.9% to 29.2%. Brevard forced 31 total turnovers in the contest, converting those Agnes Scott miscues into 28 points-off-turnovers. Impressively, the Tornados accumulated a season-best 18 steals in the game.

Although the Tornados led the matchup wire-to-wire, the Scotties gave Head Coach Donald Hudson's team all that it could handle for the duration of the 40-minute bout. Early in the first quarter, a Washington 3-pointer put BC on top 7-2, forcing an Agnes Scott timeout at the 3:29 mark. Brevard took a 12-3 advantage into the second quarter of play.

Brevard was able to extend its lead to 17-5 after a Taryn Ledford made long-range shot with 9:18 left in the second period. However, the Scotties were able to bounce back, outscoring the Tornados 10-6 over the remainder of the second stanza to cut BC's lead to six points, 23-17, at the halftime intermission.

BC pushed its lead back up to 11 points, 35-24, after a pair of Ledford free throws, but the Scotties continued to battle, using a quick 5-2 run to cut the lead back to single digits, 37-29 after the third quarter of play.

Agnes Scott continued to trim into Brevard's advantage, starting the fourth period on a 7-2 scoring stretch to cut BC's lead to single digits, 39-36 with 6:53 left to play in regulation.

After Brevard pushed its lead back out to six points, the Scotties used a Garis 3-pointer and a pair of Emma Olsen free throws to trim their deficit to one point, 42-41 with 3:24 left in the game.

The Tornados were able to pull away in the final stages of the contest, closing the game on a 9-0 run sparked by key buckets from Riddick and Washington. Brevard escaped with the 10-point, 51-41 victory to claim its eighth triumph of the 2019-20 season.

Brevard's current three-game win streak is the longest for the Tornados this season and spans over three-consecutive road victories.

The Tornados will look to make it four-in-a-row as Brevard faces a quick turnaround. BC will square off against Covenant College on Saturday, February 8 at 2 p.m. in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
