BREVARD. N.C. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (5-13, 3-9 USAS) dropped a USA South Conference contest to visiting Covenant (7-12, 4-6 USAS), 64-55, on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

The game was part of the "Black Out for Black Mamba" tribute in memory of NBA legend Kobe Bryant at the women's and men's basketball doubleheader at Brevard College. Bryant and the other victims of a tragic accident in California were remembered with a moment of silence before each game and by the BC Basketball community wearing the color black.

Junior forward Destiny Williams led Brevard with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Senior center Krysta Davis also scored 11 points to go along with six rebounds.  Ty'She Washington pulled down 10 rebounds while producing seven points.

The two teams began the game with a sluggish start offensively from the opening tip but began to connect late in the first period as Covenant led Brevard 12-11 at the end of the first.

The Tornados then caught fire in the second period, shooting 9-of-18 from the field with two made 3-pointers in the stanza.  The ball movement was exceptional in the second period with BC tallying eight assists in the nine made field goals.  Williams would score seven of her 11 points in the second quarter to lead the Tornados to a 32-25 lead at the half.

Covenant, however, flipped the script in the second half, outscoring BC 18-11 in the third quarter and 21-12 in the fourth.

A layup by Willams off an assist by Avery Lockwood put Brevard up 50-47 with 5:13 to play in regulation, however, the Scots responded with a 14-8 run to close out the contest.

For the game, Covenant outshot Brevard 45% to 35% from the field. The Scots made 9-of-14 free throws compared to 4-of-8 for the Tornados.  The Scots were able to capitalize with 23 points off 21 BC turnovers.

The Tornados return to action on Saturday with a trip to USA South rival LaGrange College. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. in LaGrange, Georgia.
