MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (3-8, 1-4 USAS) fell to host Huntingdon (5-8, 5-0 USAS) 89-56 on Saturday afternoon in the teams' first USA South Conference contest of the 2020 calendar year.

Brevard College's Deja Riddick led all scorers with a career-high 23 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field and an outstanding 11-of-13 (85%) shooting from the free-throw line.  The 11 made free throws and 13 free throw attempts were also career bests for the native of Norfolk, Virginia.

Riddick's career-high 23 points marked the third time this season that the junior forward has scored 20-plus points.  Riddick scored 22 points in her previous career-high vs. Toccoa Falls in the season-opener on November 12 and posted 21 points at Maryville on December 4.

Shakirah Thompson added nine points for the Tornados, sinking three made three-pointers. Taryn Ledford chipped in with six points while Avery Lockwood came off the bench to add five points.

Krysta Davis led the Tornados on the glass with eight rebounds.

Huntingdon jumped ahead in the contest with a 17-8 advantage after one period.  The Hawks stretched their lead even further after outscoring the Tornados 27-13 in the second quarter to take a 44-21 lead into intermission.

BC played its best quarter of the afternoon in the third period, playing neck and neck with the Hawks who just outscored Brevard 20-19.

Overall, Huntingdon outshot Brevard 52% to 42% from the field.  Turnovers and points-off-turnovers were two of the most glaring statistics of the contest.  BC committed 22 turnovers, resulting in 30 points for the Hawks. Conversely, the Tornados scored just eight points off 11 Huntingdon turnovers.

The Tornados, under the guidance of Head Coach Donald Hudson, will return to USA South Conference action on Wednesday, January 8 vs. Agnes Scott at home at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Bosh.
