Brevard Falls to Presbyterian in Exhibition Game

CLINTON, S.C. - The Brevard College's Women's Basketball team (3-7) fell in an exhibition contest, 74-45, to NCAA DI Presbyterian College (4-5) in Saturday afternoon in Clinton, South Carolina.

Saturday's contest marked the third time that the Blue Hose and the Tornados have battled in the sport of women's basketball. The matchup counted towards regular season play for the Blue Hose while being marked an exhibition for the visiting Tornados. 

Brevard's Krysta Davis scored 12 points to lead BC's charge versus Presbyterian. The Charlotte, North Carolina native shot 3-of-5 from the field and knocked in 6-of-8 shots from the free-throw line. 

Junior guard Destiny Williams added 10 points and eight boards, while Deja Riddick and Avery Lockwood each tallied five rebounds apiece. 

Presbyterian's Trinity Johnson led the way for three double-digit Blue Hose scorers, pouring in 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting that included a 3-pointer and seven free throws made. PC's Bria Gibbs tallied 12 points, while Jade Compton added 10 points to Presbyterian's efforts. 

Presbyterian led for a majority of the contest after the Blue Hose broke up a 2-2 tie at the 9:11 mark in the game's first period. The Tornados were able to keep the game within striking distance, trailing by seven points, 16-9, at the end of the first quarter. 

Brevard's deficit remained single digits until Presbyterian's Gibbs knocked in a pair of free throws before halftime, as the Tornados trailed their NCAA DI counterpart by 11 points, 27-16, heading into the halftime intermission. 

The Blue Hose pushed its lead to 19 points following an 8-0 scoring run to open up the third quarter of action. Presbyterian took a 15-point lead, 47-32, into the final period of play. 

Presbyterian was able to cruise to victory by outscoring Brevard by a 14-point margin, 27-13, in the game's final quarter en route to its 74-45 victory. 

With Saturday's game, Brevard closed out its 2019 slate of contests, as the Tornados will open the New Year on Thursday, January 2 by playing in their second and final exhibition matchup of 2019-20. The Tornados will travel to nearby Spartanburg, South Carolina to face off against NCAA DI Wofford College, with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.
