BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's basketball team (2-5, 0-1 USAS) jumps back into USA South Conference action on Wednesday evening when the Tornados travel to Maryville, Tennessee to take on the Maryville College Scots (5-2). Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.

Wednesday's game continues a busy stretch for the Tornados who played two home contests in the span of three days. Brevard dropped its conference opener, 61-47, to LaGrange College last Saturday prior to hosting Warren Wilson College, who pulled away late to defeat the Tornados by a final of 76-66 at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Junior forward Destiny Williams played in her first game of the 2019-20 season in Monday's narrow setback to Warren Wilson, as the Aiken, South Carolina native posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Tornados.

Brevard's defense excelled in Monday's contest, as the Tornados tallied a total of 14 steals to the Owls' seven. Victoria Green, Deja Riddick, Breana Ware, and Williams each registering three steals apiece to helm the Tornado defense.

BC junior guard Shakirah Thompson, who has led the Tornados' offense so far in the 2019-20 season, ranks tied-for-second in the USA South with 18 made 3-pointers over the course of Brevard's first seven games.

Maryville has been led in the early goings of 2019-20 by USA South Rookie of the Week recipient Courtney Carruthers (18 points-per-game) and USA South Player of the Week recipient Klaire Varney (17.9 points-per-game). Maryville's Shelby Hix joins Carruthers and Varney as a double-digit scorer. Varney has also paced the Scots' defense with a team-best 6.9 rebounds-per-contest and 3.4 steals-per-game.

The Scots' top scorers rank near the top of the USA South so far this season. Carruthers ranks third in points scored-per-game, while Varney's average ranks fifth. Carruthers is tied with Brevard's Thompson for 3-pointers made with 18.

Defensively, Varney's 24 steals this year are second in the USA South, only trailing Piedmont's Amari Price, who has recorded 31 thus far.

Following Brevard's mid-week road trip, the Tornados will prepare to play their last home game of the 2019 calendar year when BC plays host to Wesleyan College on Saturday, December 7 at 2 p.m. within the confines of the Boshamer Gymnasium. The contest is part of a USA South doubleheader for Brevard, as the Tornado men's team follows the women's squad with a matchup vs. Berea College that tips-off at approximately 4 p.m.
