Women’s Basketball Opens USA South Play Saturday at The Bosh

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's basketball team (2-3) is set to open USA South Conference play at home on Saturday afternoon, as the visiting LaGrange College Panthers (5-1) pay visit to the Boshamer Gymnasium for a post-Thanksgiving, 2 p.m. showdown.

LaGrange, winners of its last five contests, open up conference play against the Tornados – who are a perfect 2-0 at home this season.

The Tornados took a 64-57 victory the last time at home for Head Coach Donald Hudson's squad, as Brevard defeated Bob Jones in a non-conference matchup. Shakirah Thompson, one of three Tornados to reach double figures in the game, led the way by pouring in a career-high 19 points that included five 3-pointers. Junior forward Deja Riddick added 13 points, while fellow junior guard Taryn Ledford tallied 10 points.

Thompson has led the way so far for Brevard's offense, scoring 10.2 points-per-game while averaging 2.4 3-pointers-per-contest thus far in the early goings of the 2019-20 season.

Through its first six games this season, LaGrange's Jahpera McEachin has posted 13.3 points-per-game, shooting at a 37.7% clip from the field.

Following Saturday's conference opener, the Tornados return to action on December 2 with a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup vs. Warren Wilson College at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
