BREVARD, N.C. – Senior pitcher Micayla McCoy, a member of the Brevard College Softball team for two seasons, is the next honoree in BC Athletics' Spring Senior Profile series, highlighting and honoring 2020 seniors in Spring sports who had their respective seasons cut short due to the impact of COVID-19.

McCoy, a native of Cullowhee, North Carolina, and a graduate of Smoky Mountain High School while formerly attending Georgia Highlands College, will graduate from Brevard with a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. Following graduation from BC, McCoy plans to pursue a career as a personal trainer and coaching.

On the field, McCoy made a total of 28 starts and 31 appearances for the Tornados, accumulating 10 career wins, a pair of saves, and 15 complete games in her two seasons at BC. In the pitching circle, McCoy tallied 97 career strikeouts for Brevard in 160 innings pitched, maintaining a career ERA of 3.54. The right-hander enjoyed sustained success for the Tornados at the plate as well, carrying a .324 career batting average with a .408 on-base percentage and a .532 slugging percentage over 44 career games. Over the course of her BC career, McCoy notched 36 hits including 13 extra-base hits and three home runs, as well as 29 RBI's and 18 runs scored.

In her junior season, McCoy was a catalyst for the Tornados both offensively and in the pitching circle. McCoy sustained plentiful success in 2019, leading the Tornados in strikeouts (81), innings pitched (138), wins (10), saves (two), and complete games (14). This success translated offensively at the plate, where McCoy ranked top-five on the team in numerous offensive categories including hits (32), doubles (five), triples (four), home runs (two), RBI's (23), batting average (.364), on-base percentage (.442), and slugging percentage (.580).

McCoy kicked off her senior season with a bang, driving a three-run homer over the left-field wall at Ives-Lemel Family Field on February 12 against Bluefield College in a game she also started in the circle for the Tornados. McCoy helped the Tornados finish their shortened season on a seven-game win streak as the season culminated in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. BC finished its 2020 campaign with a 9-5 overall record, marking the program's first winning record since the 2012 season and just the third winning season in Brevard's NCAA-era.

In addition to her on-the-field accomplishments, McCoy was named to the Brevard College Honor Roll during her time at BC.

"My favorite memory at Brevard College was being able to fly to the west coast for the first time," commented McCoy regarding the 2019 BC Softball team's trip to a Spring Break Tournament in Tucson, Arizona.
