NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Brevard College Climbing team competed Saturday at the USA Climbing Appalachian Regional Championships at the Crag in Nashville, Tennessee.

Freshman Madison Altman earned a trip to the USA Climbing National Championships with two top-five finishes in different disciplines in the women's competition. 

Altman finished third in the Sport championships (3,400 points) to go along with a fifth-place performance in the Speed competition (time of 11.285).  As a result, Altman earned a spot in the national championships which will take place April 26-27 at Climb Murfreesboro in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

As a team, Brevard finished sixth out of ten schools.  The Tornados finished ahead of Middle Tennessee State, Duke, Wake Forest, and Western Carolina.

UNC won the team championship with Appalachian State finishing second.  UT-Chattanooga, Davidson, and Lees-McRae rounded out the top five. 

In addition to Altman, Danielle Brown competed for the Tornados in the women's regional championships.  Brown finished seventh in Speed with a time of 12.407 while placing 15th out of 28 climbers in the Bouldering discipline. 

Five male climbers competed across the three disciplines of Bouldering, Speed, and Sport for Brevard College.

In Bouldering, Carlton Angell placed 32nd and Samuel Willis finished 39th. 

Nathan Boepple placed sixth, just one spot out of an automatic qualification to nationals, in the Speed competition with a time of 6.846 seconds.  

Angell (19th), Mac Fitzgerald (22nd), Willis (23rd) and Taylor Everard (27th) also produced results in Speed.

In the Sport championships, Boepple finished 11th and Fitzgerald placed 12th.
