ORLANDO, Fla. - A pair of key doubles wins in the numbers one and two spots helped the Brevard College men's tennis team (2-5) earn a 6-3 decision over Curry College (0-3) at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida

The match was part of BC's stay in the Spring Break Sports Tournament, hosted at multiple facilities including the USTA Center.

Number-one doubles pairing Jackson Ray and Ethan McGee, along with JaMarcus Walker and Troy Broska who were slotted in the number-two spot, both defeated their opponents by a score of 8-6. A number-three doubles default win gave BC an early 3-0 match lead heading into singles play.

Claiming two singles matches by default to wrap up the team victory, Broska added a sixth point to BC's ledger with a thrilling three-set triumph over Curry's Kevin Meade. The freshman earned a first-set win, 7-5, before Meade knotted the contest at one set apiece with a 7-5 victory of his own. In the third set tiebreaker, Broska dominated, cruising to a 10-2 victory to earn the match win in number-three singles.

In the number-one spot, McGee battled hard but was supplanted by a comeback effort from Curry's Isaiah Goldsmith. Following a win in set number one, 6-4, by McGee, Goldsmith answered back with a 6-3 second set victory. The third set was claimed by Curry's top player, 7-5, to win the match.

Ray fell to Curry's Andrew Barron, 6-2, 6-4, in the number-two singles spot, while Miles Schafer dropped an incredibly hard-fought match in three sets in number-four singles. Schafer opened action up with a 6-3 victory in the first set that was erased by Curry's Nicholas Bell, who earned a 6-3 second-set win of his own. The third set was tightly contested, as Bell ended up with the slight upper hand, 12-10.

The match win marked the second of the 2019-20 campaign for BC men's tennis under the direction of first-year Head Coach Brad Jones.

The Tornados face a quick turnaround as BC's men's side will square off tomorrow against Wabash College at 3 p.m.
