BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados Men's Tennis team (5-8, 3-4 USAS) won its third match in a row by defeating the Berea College Mountaineers (2-9, 2-7 USAS) by a final of 7-2 at the McCoy Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon. 

Senior Tom Mittring earned his 21st consecutive singles victory by sweeping Berea's Chris Malpartida, 6-0, 6-0. Mittring is a two-time USA South Player of the Week this season. 

Senior Tim Hengst and freshman Tyler Frazee both now hold nine-game win streaks after their singles victories on Sunday against Berea. 

Hengst swept Michael Malpartida, 6-0, 6-0, in the no. 2 slot, while Frazee earned a 6-0, 6-1 decision in no. 3 singles. Frazee has been named the USA South Rookie of the Week for the last two weeks. 

In doubles action, the duo of Mittring and Hengst earned an 8-2 win, improving their record to eight wins and two losses as a pairing in 2018-19. The Mittring/Hengst pairing has collected wins in four-consecutive matches. 

In no. 2 doubles, Frazee and fellow freshman Andrew Ingram took an 8-2 decision. 

The Tornados dropped the three-line in doubles and six line in singles to forfeit, their only two points surrendered in the match. 

Nathan Boepple and Ingram won thrilling three-set matches in no. 4 and 5 singles to give the Tornados the 7-2 victory. 

Boepple, who is also a member of the Brevard College Climbing team, participated in this afternoon's tennis match just one day after travellng to Nashville, Tennessee to compete in the USA Climbing Appalachian Regional Championships. Boepple took the first set, 6-3, before falling in a 7-6 second set via tiebreaker, 7-5. Boepple clinched the no. 4 singles victory in the final set, 10-5.

Ingram battled as well in his three-set victory, coming from behind to earn his third singles victory this season. Berea's James Weaver took set one, 7-6, thanks to a 7-4 tiebreaker. However, Ingram fought back, taking set two, 6-2, before winning the final set 10-6 for the singles victory. 

BC Men's Tennis hits the road along with its counterparts from the BC Women's Tennis team on Wednesday, April 3 to face Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee at 1 p.m.
