BREVARD, N.C. – Three Brevard College Men's Soccer student-athletes – Wendel Lima, Sam O'Callaghan and Adam Spencer – have been honored with 2020-21 Player Awards of Distinction by the United Soccer Coaches.
The Player Awards of Distinction honor student-athletes who have achieved quality performance on the field, represented the highest ideals of team leadership, exhibited quality character attributes, and made other significant contributions to the benefit of the program and the community.
Lima, a freshman midfielder from Sao Paulo, Brazil, earned Second-Team USA South Conference All-West Division honors this season. Lima started all nine games for the Tornados and delivered a key assist in a conference win over Berea as BC marched to a 4-1 mark in league play.
O'Callaghan, a freshman defender from Wicklow, Ireland, was a First-Team USA South Conference All-West Division selection in his collegiate debut in the Spring of 2021. O'Callaghan led the Tornados with four assists this season, while also scoring a critical goal at Covenant in the 84th minute of the USA South West Division championship game to send the match into penalty kicks.
Spencer, a senior midfielder from Mooresville, North Carolina, was also named a United States Coaches All-Region Scholar honoree by the United Soccer Coaches this season. A First-Team USA South Conference All-West Division selection, Spencer accumulated five goals with three assists for 13 points, a mark that ranked second on the team. The returning senior is tied-for-second in career goals (20) and third in career points (25) in BC's NCAA-era history.
Lima, O'Callaghan and Spencer helped lead the Tornados to the program's first trophy in the NCAA era – the Spring 2021 USA South Conference West Division Championship.
