BREVARD, N.C. – Sophomore forward Vinicius Giannaccini scored twice and dished out an assist for five total points as the Brevard College men's soccer team (3-1, 2-1 USAS) put a trio of goals past Berea College (0-3, 0-3 USAS) in a 3-0 conference victory on Sunday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Giannaccini, a second-year player from Jacarei, Brazil, put a pair of goals in alongside a strike from Francesco Bonometti, giving the pairing four goals each thus far in the 2021 Spring campaign.

Alongside Giannaccini's assist, Estevan Berto, Adam Spencer, and Wendel Lima also contributed to the build-up of Brevard's three scores.

The Tornados controlled the contest from the onset, outshooting the Mountaineers, 21-3, with 11 of their shots coming on-target. Brevard won a total of 15 corner kicks and controlled possession for 67% of the contest.

Junior goalkeeper Jack Pruehs (1-1) earned his first career start between the pipes for the Tornados, securing his first collegiate victory in the 3-0 win for Brevard.

BC let three shots fly and controlled four corner kicks before its first goal came in the 21st minute, as Lima's pass was handled by Spencer, who whipped in an impressive cross that found Giannaccini, who headed home the goal to give the Tornados the early advantage.

Despite dominating attacking play that created four shot attempts and six corner kicks in the final 24 minutes of the second half, Berea was able to keep Brevard out of the back of the net, keeping the match at a 1-0 margin at the intermission.

The Tornados struck quickly, as their first shot attempt of the second half was a goal. Bonometti was set up by a build-up from Berto, whose pass was flicked on by Giannaccini. The sophomore from Paderno Franciacorta, Italy hit a one-timer that curled into the upper right corner of the goal, doubling the Tornado lead to a 2-0 margin.

Brevard kept the pressure on Berea continuously before scoring for the third time in the 70th minute when Giannaccini intercepted a Mountaineer pass in the attacking-third and slotted home a left-footed shot into the lower right-hand side of goal, giving him a career-best five-point performance and extending the Tornado lead to a 3-0 margin.

Berto led the Tornados with six shot attempts, while Giannaccini let four shots fly in the contest. Facundo Sunhary also attempted multiple shots, firing off three attempts with two going on-goal.

Brevard is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 10 for a mid-week conference matchup in Maryville, Tennessee against Maryville College at 7 p.m. The contest, originally scheduled for Saturday, February 27, had been postponed due to inclement weather.
