BREVARD, N.C. – Throughout the Fall of 2020, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be highlighting the new faces in the BC Tornado family, welcoming the freshman and newcomer student-athletes who will be joining Tornado teams during the 2020-21 athletic seasons.
Next up in this series is the BC Men's Soccer team, under the direction of Head Coach Helio D'Anna, Associate Head Coach Juan Mascaro Jr., and Volunteer Assistant Coach Kevin Martin. The Tornados will welcome a total of 20 freshman student-athletes to its team this upcoming season.
"Our incoming class this year is very exciting," said Helio D'Anna, Brevard College Head Men's Soccer Coach. "We have technical ability, athleticism, and soccer savviness and most importantly, character. These guys come from all over the region and other countries and add diversity, coachability and a great attitude. We already had a strong class returning and now we are poised to have a wonderful year."
The Tornados will look to build upon its 2019 season in which BC earned seven victories and went 7-3-3 in USA South Conference play. Brevard College men's soccer made its first post-season appearance since 2016.
Bryan Barbosa- Freshman- Midfield- Hendersonville, N.C.
The Hendersonville, North Carolina native will play midfield for the Tornados.
Estevan Berto- Freshman- Midfield- Sao Paulo, Brazil- Coronel Eugenio (Underwood University)
Graduated high school at Coronel Eugenio and then attended Underwood University. Majoring in Exercise Science at Brevard College. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native will play midfield for the Tornados.
Francesco Bonometti- Sophomore- Midfield/Forward- Paderno Franciacorta, Italy- Giovanni Paolo II (Rowan College of South Jersey)
A member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and attended Rowan College of South Jersey in 2019 where he earned Second Team All-Academic honors. Bonometti will be a Business and Organizational Leadership major at Brevard College. The Paderno Franciacorta, Italy native will play midfield and forward for the Tornados.
Ryan Devay- Freshman- Defense- Layton, Utah- Layton Christian Academy
Graduated from Layton Christian Academy and is majoring in Business and Organizational Leadership at Brevard College. The Layton, Utah native will play outside back for the Tornados.
Gabriel Duarte- Freshman- Midfield/Forward- Sao Paulo, Brazil- Colegio Marista Arquidiocesano
The Sao Paulo, Brazil native will play midfield and forward for the Tornados.
Antonio Ferreira- Junior- Midfield- Sao Paulo, Brazil- ETEC Prefeito Alberto Feres (Carl Sandburg College)
Played two seasons at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois and was selected as an NJCAA Academic All-Arrowhead Conference honoree in both 2018 and 2019. Ferreira earned NJCAA All-Academic second team honors in 2019. He will be majoring in Business and Organizational Leadership at Brevard College. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native will play midfield for the Tornados.
Noah Hinton- Freshman- Midfield- Sylva, N.C.- Smoky Mountain High School
The Sylva, North Carolina native will play midfield for the Tornados.
Otis Kahar- Freshman- Goalkeeper- Cardiff, England- Bishop of Llandaff High School
The Cardiff, England native will play goalkeeper for the Tornados.
Jacob Kolodzik- Freshman- Defense- Franklin, N.C.- Franklin High School
Graduated from Franklin High School where he was an All-Conference, All-Region, and All-Western North Carolina honoree. Academically, Kolodzik was a member of the National Honor Society and made the A-B Honor Roll. He served as a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes while at Franklin High School. Kolodzik will be a Health and Wellness/Physical Education major at Brevard College. The Franklin, North Carolina native will play defense for the Tornados.
Wendel Lima- Freshman- Midfield- Sao Paulo, Brazil- Padre Jose Narciso (Underwood University)
Completed high school at Padre Jose Narciso for high school and the attended Underwood University in Suwanee, Georgia. Lima will be an Exercise Science major at Brevard College. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native will play midfield for the Tornados.
Ryan Lynch- Freshman- Forward- Charlotte, N.C.- Carmel Christian High School
Graduated from Carmel Christian High School in Charlotte, N.C. where he was an All-State, All-Region, and All-Conference performer. Lynch will be a Business and Organization Leadership major at Brevard College. The Charlotte, North Carolina native will play forward for the Tornados.
Isaias Maldonado-Figueroa- Freshman- Midfield- Asheville, N.C.- Asheville High School
The Asheville, North Carolina native will play midfield for the Tornados.
Simba Mtasa- Freshman- Defense- Harare, Zimbabwe- St. John's College
Before BC, Mtasa racked up numerous honors and achievements while at St. John's College. Served as the First Team captain, was captain of 'First Team of the Year in 2019,' earned the Craig Ralph Memorial Trophy (for grit and determination in sports) in 2019, played for the U16 Zimbabwe CHISZ Soccer, served as the U19 Zimbabwe CHISZ Soccer Captain in 2019, and played for the U19 CHISZ Soccer in 2017 and 2019. Mtasa was a member of the High School Bridge Club at St. John's. The Harare, Zimbabwe native will play defense for the Tornados.
Luke Norton- Freshman- Midfield- Edgewater, Fla.- New Smyrna Beach High School
The Edgewater, Florida native will play midfield and defense for the Tornados.
Sam O'Callaghan- Freshman- Defense/Midfield- Wicklow, Ireland- St. David's Secondary School (University College Dublin)
Earned "Sports Person of the Year" award from St. David's Secondary School. Will be an Exercise Science major at Brevard College. The Wicklow, Ireland native will play outside back for the Tornados.
Grayson Ogle- Freshman- Goalkeeper- Newport, N.C.- West Carteret High School
The Newport, North Carolina native will play goalkeeper for the Tornados.
Jeremy Penton- Freshman- Midfield- Jacksonville, N.C.- White Oak High School
The Jacksonville, North Carolina native will play midfield for the Tornados.
Ryan Sinkamba- Freshman- Midfield/Forward- Lusaka, Zambia- St. Paul's Secondary School
In high school, Sinkamba earned "Coca-Cola Regional Top Scorer" honors in 2018. He was involved with the Math Club in high school and Sinkamba will be a Physics major at Brevard College. The Lusaka, Zambia native will play midfield and forward for the Tornados.
Inigo Satrustegui- Freshman- Defense- Madrid, Spain- Colegio Nuestra Senhora de Loreto
Completed high school at Colegio Nuestra Senhora de Loreto and is majoring in Business and Organizational Leadership at Brevard College. The Madrid, Spain native will play defense for the Tornados.
Facundo Sunhary- Freshman- Forward- Montevideo, Uruguay- ORT University
The Montevideo, Uruguay native will play forward for the Tornados.
