Tornados Fall in Midweek Conference Tilt

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (2-10, 0-5 USA South) fell 24-6 to Piedmont University (7-4, 3-0 USAS) on Wednesday evening in Demorest, Georgia.

Atticus Cooper notched a season-high two goals and two assists for four points scored, while also grabbing a team-high four ground balls. Parker Corbett scored a pair of goals on Cooper's assists, while Andrew McDonald and Brice Peterson each tallied a goal and an assist with Drew Pond also recording an assist. BC deployed a duo of goalkeepers in the matchup as Jack Hicks and Scott Bundy each played a half for BC, logging seven saves apiece.  

Piedmont's Michael Anderson led a high-octane offense with five goals and an assist, as the Lions totaled 24 goals in the matchup. Eight total Lions logged multi-point performances in the dominant conference victory.

Piedmont outshot Brevard 52-18 and put 38 shots on target. The Lions grabbed 56 ground balls to BC's 23 and were 33-for-34 on faceoffs and 11-for-13 on clear attempts. Brevard was successful on 20 of its 29 clear attempts in the contest.

The Lions dominated play in the first period, scoring nine unanswered goals to take a 9-0 lead through one-quarter of play. Cooper found the back of the net in the second period to get Brevard on the board, halting a 12-goal streak for the hosts. Cooper assisted on Corbett's second quarter at the 6:49 mark, but the Lions were able to take an 18-2 lead into the halftime intermission.

Cooper scored his second goal of the contest on an assist from McDonald with 5:42 left in the third period of action, while Peterson put in an assist from Peters for Peterson's first goal of the season. Piedmont edged Brevard 3-2 in goals in the third stanza.

McDonald scored his first goal of the game on a Peterson assist in the early portion of the fourth and final quarter. Corbett scored his second goal of the game on Cooper's second assist at the 8:40 mark. To cap off the scoring for Brevard, who were narrowly outscored 6-4 in the second half of action.

Brevard returns to the friendly confines of Ives-Lemel Family Field for a matchup against Greensboro College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
