MLAX Bested by Pacers on the Road, 17-5

CARY, N.C. – The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (2-9, 0-4 USA South) fell 17-5 on Saturday afternoon to William Peace University (4-5, 1-3 USAS) in a USA South Conference matchup in Cary, North Carolina.

BC's Parker Corbett and Andrew McDonald each scored two goals and dished out an assist, while Drew Pond scored once and added three assists for four total points to lead all Tornados. Starting goalkeeper Scott Bundy (0-3) made 12 saves and grabbed a team-high eight ground balls, while Jacob Gravely added three caused turnovers. Will Scoggins won nine faceoffs and Ben Wilhelm added three faceoff wins.

WPU's Riely Murray scored a game-high five goals, while William Murray and Brewer Warlick each added three goals apiece for the Pacers, who picked up their first conference win of the season and sent Brevard's current skid to eight games in a row.

Riely Murray scored the game's first two goals before Corbett and McDonald answered right back with goals of their own to tie things up, 2-2 at the 10:13 mark in the first quarter. The Pacers closed the quarter out with back-to-back scores as the contest shifted to the second period with the hosts on top 4-2.

WPU kicked off the second stanza with two straight goals before Pond and Corbett found the back of the net to cut the deficit back down to two goals, 6-4. William Peace ended the first half on a 4-0 scoring run to take a 10-4 edge into halftime.

The Pacers shut out Brevard 4-0 in the third period and took a 16-4 lead with 6:06 left to play in the game. McDonald finished a Pond assist, but the offensive effort proved too late as WPU wrapped up a 17-5 conference victory.

William Peace held a slight edge in ground balls (60-51) and went 28-for-32 on clear attempts while outshooting Brevard 49-26 in the matchup.

The Tornados return to action with a midweek road trip to Demorest, Georiga to take on Piedmont University on Wednesday, April 5 at 4 p.m.
