Offensive Barrage Carries Brevard to 22-8 Win over Spalding

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (2-1) used a dominant all-around performance to stifle Spalding University (0-2) 22-8 on a wet Friday evening under the lights at Ives Lemel Family Field.

The Tornados set new program-high single-game marks for shot attempts (70), shots-on-goal (45), ground balls (66) and man-down goals (three) in the 14-goal victory.

Junior attacker Andrew McDonald led the offensive onslaught with five goals and four assists to total a career-high nine points, while also adding a career-best 11 ground balls to his ledger. Sophomore Finnegan McCormack added four goals, while Frankie Howard and Drew Pond both had three goals and two assists for a total of five points each. Graduate transfer Parker Corbett scored three times with an assist, while Atticus Cooper and Henry Konsker each added a goal and an assist. Freshman Gage Khayat logged his first collegiate goal as well.

Ben Wilhelm won 23-of-31 faceoffs in the contest, while six different Tornados caused multiple turnovers defensively. Jack Hicks (2-0) earned his second victory in goal, starting and playing the entirety of the first half with four saves.

Spalding's Mason Moore and Xzayvyon Isom each scored twice, while goalkeeper John Kelly made 22 saves.

BC scored the game's first five goals before Spalding answered with four of the next six goals to cut the deficit to 7-4. However, BC's McDonald closed the first quarter out with his second goal of the game.

Paced by three goals from Howard, the Tornados posted six unanswered goals in the second stanza to take a controlling 14-4 advantage as the contest moved into the intermission.

From there, BC was able to cruise, as the Tornados outscored Spalding 8-4 in the second half to wrap up the 22-8 home triumph.

Brevard returns to action on Thursday, March 2 as the Tornados travel down to Atlanta, Georgia to take on Oglethorpe University at 5 p.m.
