BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard men's lacrosse team looks to make its second 2-0 start in program history this weekend when the team heads to Birmingham, Ala., to take on Birmingham Southern on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The Tornados, who kicked off the 2018 slate with a decisive 15-6 victory over Montreat, last opened a season with back-to-back wins in 2015 when they started out 3-0.

In Wednesday's victory over Montreat, the Tornados scored the most goals in a game since Feb. 11th, 2017 when they tallied 22 against Emmanuel. The defense also allowed single-digit goals for the first time since Mar. 11th, 2017 when Brevard limited Coker to just five goals.

Jackson McKaig led all scorers with five goals, followed by Kyle Hunziker (four), Sam Duffie (three), and Paxton Brown, Jack Shade and David Buono each added one goal on the night. On the defensive end, Brevard goalkeeper Xza Holmes-Copeland recorded eight saves on 14 shot attempts in 46 minutes of action.

The game marks the season opener for Birmingham Southern, who finished 8-9 a season ago as they finished off the campaign with an 8-3 setback in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament.
