DI Catamounts Run Past Tornados in Cullowhee

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (2-6) fell 99-55 to NCAA DI Western Carolina University (5-6) on Saturday afternoon in the Ramsey Center in Cullowhee, North Carolina.

Saturday's meeting between the Catamounts and Tornados marked the school's first meeting in men's basketball since 1947. WCU holds a 5-0 advantage in the all-time varsity series. 

Brevard was paced by a pair of 14-point outputs from junior forward Sly White and sophomore center Ryan Smith. White, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, collects his second-straight double-digit scoring outing after tallying a career-high 22 points this past Thursday vs. Johnson & Wales-Charlotte. Smith's 14-point performance matches his career-high set last season vs. LaGrange College (1/30/22). 

Smith hit a team-high four 3-pointers, with White connecting on three shots from beyond the arc. Freshman forward Jadon Carnes added eight points with a pair of 3-point buckets. 

The Catamounts were paced by Vonterius Woolbright, who logged 21 points and nine rebounds, while Russell Jones Jr (14 points), Tyzhaun Claude (12 points), and Marlow Gilmore (12 points) joined him in double figures. Gilmore hauled down a game-high 13 rebound for a double-double effort. 

WCU shot 54% from the field and hit 13 3-point jumpers while controlling the battle on the boards, 51-21. Brevard hit nine 3-pointers in the contest to pace its offensive effort. 

The Tornados next prepare for a road matchup with Bob Jones University next Saturday, December 17 at 12 p.m.
