Stormy Petrels Take Season Opener over Tornados in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (0-1) opened its 2021-22 season on Saturday, falling by a final of 92-42 to Oglethorpe University (1-0).

Chancey Watson led all Tornados in scoring in his first game at Brevard, tallying seven points, while Paris Crawford added six points. Charles Reed led all Tornados with six rebounds to go alongside five points. 

Oglethorpe was led by Dimetri Chambers, who dropped 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting and 4-of-8 from distance. As a team, the Stormy Petrels were able to shoot a highly-efficient 53.1% from the field (34-of-64) while knocking down 17-of-32 shots from beyond the 3-point arc. 

With exception of a 3-3 tie early in the first half, Oglethorpe was able to hold the lead for a majority of the contest. The Stormy Petrels outscored Brevard 48-16 in the first half before closing the game out with a 44-26 advantage in the second stanza. 

The Tornados will prepare for a busy week of action next week, as Brevard faces UNC-Asheville in an exhibition on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. before its home opener on Friday at 6 p.m. against Berry College.
