Tornados Set for Weekend Full of Conference Action on the Road

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's basketball team (3-13, 2-7 USAS) will head on the road for back-to-back USA South Conference matchups against Huntingdon College (8-8, 5-4 USAS) in Montgomery, Alabama on Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. CT and LaGrange College (3-12, 2-6 USAS) in LaGrange, Georgia on Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Tornados will be finishing up a stretch of five-out-of-six games on the road this weekend, as BC is searching for its first victory since an 83-79 triumph over NC Wesleyan on January 5 at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Numerous milestones have been reached over the course of Brevard's recent road contests. Levi Lamb hit his 124th career 3-pointer on January 8 at Berea College to become the Tornados' NCAA-era leader in career 3-pointers made. Just six days later, Lamb became the fifth player in Brevard's NCAA-era history to reach the 1,000-point mark for a career on January 14 vs. Covenant College. The senior from Atlanta was honored pre-game for this outstanding achievement in Brevard's last matchup on January 21 against Piedmont College at The Bosh. There, fellow senior guard Demari Hopper tallied a career-high 25 points that included six made 3-pointers.

As a team, the Tornados made 16 long-range buckets in their setback to Piedmont, which ties the third-most 3-pointers made in a single game in BC's NCAA-era. Brevard's 16 made 3-pointers trails the NCAA-era record of 18 made long-distance buckets set on January 17, 2015, vs. Newberry College, and is one behind the 17 made 3-pointer mark that was set on January 26, 2008, at North Greenville University, and again on November 26, 2013, at Tusculum University.

Hopper's 25-point performance adds to an already impressive stretch of play for the Gastonia, North Carolina native. The senior has averaged 14.2 points-per-game in the month of January, and has reached double-figure scoring totals in nine of his last 11 contests.

Huntingdon's Damien Madison has paced the Hawks' attack by averaging 16.3 points-per-contest, which is tied-for-sixth in the conference. The Hawks have shot 45.8% from the field (fourth in USA South) while hitting their long-distance shots at a 36.5% clip (second in USA South).

LaGrange features the conference's leading scorer in Julian Cameron, who has averaged 22.5 points-per-contest through the Panthers' first 15 games.

Following Brevard's two-game weekend road trip, the Tornados will begin a stretch of five-out-of-seven home games to conclude the 2019-20 season. Brevard kicks this stretch off with a battle against Maryville College on Tuesday, January 28, which serves as the final BC basketball doubleheader of the season. Brevard's women's team faces Covenant College at 5:30 p.m., with the men scheduled to tip-off at approximately 7:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear black as Brevard gets set to "Black Out The Bosh" for the final home doubleheader of the season.
