Men’s Basketball Staff to Participate in Suits and Sneakers vs. Piedmont

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's basketball team (3-12, 2-6 USAS) returns to the Boshamer Gymnasium on Tuesday evening following a three-game road trip to face the Piedmont College Lions (7-9, 2-7 USAS) in USA South Conference play.

Head Men's Basketball Coach Lee Burgess, along with Assistant Coach Miles Leathers, will participate in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers program – a nationwide event that unites basketball coaches across the country for the common cause of saving lives from cancer.

Coaches and their staff across the nation wear sneakers with their suits during games to raise awareness, helping to save lives by raising funds and encouraging people to educate themselves about cancer prevention, screening, and early detection.

2019-2020 Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers games will support childhood cancer research, services, and awareness, as well as promote cancer prevention efforts targeting children.

Alongside the BC men's basketball staff, the coaches of Piedmont will also participate in the initiative on Tuesday evening.

The Tornados return to the confines of the Boshamer Gymnasium following three conference losses on the road, two of which coming by just single digits while one contest went into overtime.

Brevard first matched up against Berea College on Wednesday, January 8, falling 71-65. Senior Levi Lamb broke the Brevard NCAA-era record for career 3-pointers made at Berea. Six days later, the Tornados traveled to USA South West Division leaders Covenant College, where the Scots prevailed by a final of 75-55. There, Levi Lamb became just the fifth Tornado in the NCAA-era to reach 1,000 career points. The Tornados wrapped up their three-game road swing last Saturday, January 18 at Pfeiffer University. Levi Lamb scored a career-high 30 points, however, Brevard narrowly fell by a final of 94-87 in overtime.

The Piedmont Lions have posted a 2-7 mark in conference play through their first nine conference contests. Piedmont has dropped five-straight conference games after starting 2-2 in USA South action.

After Tuesday's home game, Brevard will hit the road this weekend for back-to-back USA South contests. BC will travel to Montgomery, Alabama on Friday, January 24 for an 8:30 p.m. ET/ 7:30 p.m. CT tip-off against Huntingdon College, followed by a Saturday, January 25 matchup against LaGrange College.
