USA South Reveals Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll

BREVARD, N.C. - The USA South Conference has announced its 2019-20 preseason poll for men's basketball, tabbing the Brevard College Tornados to finish 7th in the West Division. 

Covenant College, who won the West Division crown last season, was selected first with six first-place votes to go along with their 36 total points. 

Following Covenant was a three-way tie for second place. Berea College (one first-place vote), LaGrange College, and defending USA South Conference Men's Basketball Tournament champion Maryville College each shared second place in the poll, amassing 25 points. 

Piedmont College (15 points), Huntingdon College (14 points), and Brevard (seven points) rounded out the west division poll. 

Brevard returns a majority of its starting lineup from the 2018-19 season while bringing back a mixture of key returning role players and newcomers who look to make an immediate impact on the Tornados. 

A trio of seniors will look to anchor the Brevard men's basketball team, as forward Levi Lamb, guard Qadhafi Turner, and guard Demari Hopper embark on their last season as Tornados. Lamb averaged 15.2 points-per-game, which ranked top-10 in the USA South in the 2018-19 season. Turner's 2.0 steals-per-game ranked fourth in the conference last season, leading Brevard's defense. Hopper averaged 8.6 points-per-game and 4.3 rebounds-per-game, both of which ranked second on the team. 

The Tornados open their 2019-20 season by taking on Toccoa Falls College in a season-opening doubleheader at the Boshamer Gymnasium. on Tuesday, November 12. The season-opener will be played alongside the BC women's basketball team, who tips off at 5:30 p.m. BC's men's team follows with an approximate tip-off time of 7:30 p.m.

Tornado Tip-off Set for Monday, November 4 at 9 p.m.:  The annual Tornado Tip-off event has been announced for Monday, November 4 at 9 p.m. at Boshamer Gymnasium. Fans are encouraged to "Pack the Bosh" and get their first look at the 2019-20 men's and women's basketball teams.
