Men’s Basketball Falls on the Road at NCAA Division I USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Brevard College Men's Basketball team (1-1) dropped a road contest to NCAA DI member institution USC Upstate (1-1) in non-conference action late Saturday afternoon.

The setback came less than 24 hours away from Brevard's season-opening victory against Toccoa Falls.

Junior forward Levi Lamb led the way for the BC offense as its only double-digit scorer. Lamb recorded 11 points for the second consecutive outing, posting 5-of-7 shooting from the floor.

Sophomore guard Demari Hopper tacked on six points and six rebounds to the Tornados' efforts on Saturday.

The Spartans of USC Upstate were led by Malik Moore on offense. The native of nearby Asheville, N.C. recorded 20 points on 5-of-7 shooting, seven rebounds, and five assists to lead the Spartans' charge.

Thomas Booker led the charge for the Upstate bench, tallying 14 points in just 14 minutes, shooting 5-of-6 from the field.

BC held a 3-2 advantage early in the first half after a Lamb made field goal. Upstate would take control of the lead after that for the rest of the contest.

Upstate held a 42-25 rebound advantage in the contest and forced 21 Tornado turnovers.

The Tornados now look ahead to the Lon Varnell Classic hosted by Sewanee College on November 16-17. Brevard matches up first with Berry College on Nov 16. before squaring off with host Sewanee on Nov. 17.

The Tornados will return home to the Boshamer Gymnasium for their first home contest of 2018-19 on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
