Pledger Becomes BC’s First DIII-Era All-American; Naylor Selected to D3football.com’s All-Region Squad

BREVARD, N.C. – Sophomore defensive back Joc Pledger was selected to D3football.com's Spring 2021 All-American Second Team to become the first All-American student-athlete in Brevard College's NCAA DIII-Era. BC sophomore linebacker Toby Naylor became the Tornados' first All-Region selection as a member of Division III, securing a spot on the D3football.com All-Region Second Team.

Pledger's selection marks the first All-American student-athlete honoree for Brevard College since women's basketball's Madison Lenox earned D2CCA's All-American Third Team plaudits in 2017.

Pledger, a native of Monroe, Georgia, finished the Spring 2021 season tied-for-second in the nation with five interceptions, adding 19 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, and a forced fumble to his ledger. Only through two seasons at Brevard, Pledger already is tied for second in BC Football program history with nine career interceptions.

Naylor, a native of Southampton, England, totaled 37 tackles – 7.4 tackles per game – with 2.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss while starting all five games for the Tornados. Naylor and Pledger both earned D3football.com Team of the Week honors throughout the Spring 2021 season.

Naylor and Pledger helped lead the Tornados to a 4-1 overall record in the Spring of 2021, as Brevard earned a USA South Conference West Division Co-Championship. The Tornados are slated to kick off their Fall season on Saturday, September 4 at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia.
