Carr, Smith II Sweep USA South Rookie of the Week Awards

OFFICIAL USA SOUTH RELEASE

BREVARD, N.C. - Brevard College football freshmen Eli Carr and Ernest Smith II swept the USA South Football Rookie of the Week awards following BC's dominant 27-3 victory over Huntingdon College last Saturday at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Carr secured his second consecutive Offensive Rookie of the Week nod after a four-touchdown performance against the defending USA South champion Hawks. Smith II secured Defensive Rookie of the Week honors following a four-tackle performance that included a pair of stops on fourth down.

Carr, a quarterback from nearby Asheville, North Carolina, threw for a career-best four touchdowns with 194 passing yards in Brevard's 27-3 victory over Huntingdon. Through two games played, Carr has hurled five touchdowns and no interceptions while leading the Tornados to consecutive victories.

Smith II, a defensive lineman from Barnwell, South Carolina, logged solo tackles in the win over Huntingdon while coming through with a pair of crucial stops on fourth down to help the Tornado defense hold Huntingdon to just three points in the contest.

Carr and Smith II's selections give the Tornados three USA South weekly awards in the Spring 2021 football season. Carr becomes only the second Tornado to earn multiple USA South Offensive Rookie of the Week nods in the same season, joining teammate Dalton Cole who did it in 2018.
