BREVARD, N.C. - Following three consecutive victories to open the 2019 season for the first time since 2000, the Brevard College Tornados football team (3-0, 1-0 USAS) sets its sights on a conference matchup on the road vs. Methodist University (1-2, 0-1 USAS) this Saturday, October 12 at 1 p.m.

Brevard enters the Methodist contest on a five-game win streak dating back to Nov. 10, 2018.  Over the win streak, the Tornados have outscored opponents 163-42 with the BC defense holding opponents to 8.4 points-per-game.

Brevard holds a 2-0 all-time record vs. Methodist that includes a thrilling 41-36 victory last season at Brevard Memorial Stadium, where a late Methodist rally was thwarted by the BC defense.

The Tornados opened up conference play with a thrilling 22-10 victory on Homecoming over the defending USA South Conference champion Maryville Scots, while the Monarchs of Methodist fell in convincing fashion, 48-7 to the Huntingdon Hawks.

Brevard's 3-0 start has been anchored by a havoc-causing defense that has forced a conference-leading nine interceptions and a second-best 11 caused turnovers. The Tornados' defense has reached some impressive benchmarks thus far, stifling opponents to under 100 yards-per-game rushing and under 10 points-per-game through their first three contests. Brevard's defense has held opponents to 91.7 rushing yards-per-game and just 8.3 points-per-game thus far in 2019, making waves as one of the top defensive units in the USA South.

Brevard's special teams unit has been aggressive, causing havoc of its own that helped push the Tornados to their big win vs. Maryville. A key fumble recovery in the end zone on a Scots' punt attempt by freshman defensive back Rook Tate helped shift momentum Brevard's way in their victory.  That key play led to Tate receiving national accolades as the Gaffney, S.C. native was named to D3football.com's Team of the Week on Tuesday.

Sophomore quarterback Dalton Cole has paced the Tornado offense with 516 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, and three rushing scores. Fellow sophomore running back Damon Rouse has added 146 rushing yards on 26 attempts for an average yards-per-carry of 5.6, scoring twice on the ground and once through the air.

Brevard's defense will be tasked with bottling up another potent rushing attack for the second-straight week. Methodist's Vontre Howard has tallied 265 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Nick Baker has added 199 yards and three scores on the ground. The Monarchs' rushing attack is currently in the top half of the USA South.

Following Brevard's road test, the Tornados will return home for a Saturday, October 19 contest vs. three-time USA South champion Huntingdon College (2-2, 1-0 USAS). Kickoff for Brevard's "Think Pink" matchup is slated for 1 p.m. at Brevard Memorial Stadium.
