Staff Highlight Series: Assistant Cycling Coach Cypress Gorry

BREVARD, N.C. - Throughout the Fall, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be highlighting its staff members in a tri-weekly Staff Highlight Series, giving members of the Athletic Administration and Coaching Staff the opportunity to introduce themselves to the BC community through a series of questions and biographical elements. 

Next up in BC's Staff Highlight Series is Brevard College Assistant Cycling Coach Cypress Gorry, a former cycling student-athlete at Brevard College.

bctornados.com: What has been your favorite professional memory? 

Coach Gorry: The cycling team winning the Mountain Bike Team Relay in order to secure our first Division 1 Omnium National Title in 2016. 

bctornados.com: What makes Brevard College a special place?

Coach Gorry: Brevard College has incredible outdoor recreation access right outside of campus, making it the ideal destination for cycling along with with many other outdoor sports and activities.

bctornados.com: What is some advice you would give to young people looking to get into the profession?

Coach Gorry: Being humble and treating everyone with respect is key. You never know who may be a great connection in the future.

Cypress Gorry enters his fifth season on staff with the BC Cycling program. After graduating from Brevard College, Cypress Gorry came back to work with the Cycling Team as the Assistant Coach. While attending school, Gorry was part of multiple mountain bike and cyclocross national championship-winning teams and claimed four individual mountain bike titles. Gorry was a double major in Exercise Science and Mathematics.


Outside of the Brevard Cycling program, Gorry has had much success as a professional athlete. Having previously raced at the World Championships in multiple disciplines, and winning the U23 Pro Cross Country National Championship in 2015 and 2016, Gorry brings a great amount of racing knowledge and experience to the program.


Gorry not only has a lengthy history of race experience but also brings a vast amount of racing knowledge and experience to the program.. As the owner of Rouleur Coaching, his own coaching business, Gorry delivers a large background in performance coaching to the Brevard College Cycling Team, having worked with many individual clients towards achieving their competitive goals.
