Ten Brevard College Student-Athletes Named USA Cycling Academic All-Stars

Official USA Cycling Press Release

BREVARD, N.C. – Ten Brevard College Cycling student-athletes – Hannah Arensman, Carson Beckett, Tyler Clark, Michaela Gray, Tyler Miranda, Tyler Orschel, Rachel Pageau, Nicole Rusden, Emma Schwab and Aliza Tobias - have been named USA Cycling Collegiate Academic All-Stars for the Fall 2019 season.

The ten USA Cycling Academic All-Stars mark a program high for Brevard College after placing seven cycling student-athletes on the list last year.

In order to be named to the Academic All-Star class, the student-athletes had to compete at a USA Cycling National Championship event while earning a Fall term GPA of at least 3.50.

Several of the Brevard College Academic All-Star members also earned podium finishes at this season's USA Cycling Mountain Bike and Cyclocross national championships.

Clark won the Men's Varsity Individual Omnium national title at the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships held in October at Big Bear Lake, California. Clark also combined with Arensman, Beckett and Schwab to earn a second-place podium finish in the Varsity Team Relay.

Beckett finished third and Orschel fourth in the mountain bike individual omnium to give BC a total of three of the five men's omnium podium spots at the national championships.  On the women's side at the mountain bike nationals, Arensman placed fifth in the individual omnium and Pageau earned a fifth-place podium in varsity downhill.

At the USA Cycling Collegiate Cyclocross National Championships held in Lakewood, Washington, Arensman, Clark and Orschel combined for a second-place finish in the Varsity Team Relay.  Arensman also earned a podium with a third-place result in the women's varsity individual race.  Orschel finished second and Clark placed fourth to also earn podium in the men's varsity individual race.

As a team, Brevard College finished second at the USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships and third at the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships.

In total, 106 student-athletes from across the country were named to the Fall 2019 class of USA Cycling Collegiate All-Stars.  For the complete list or more information, go to www.usacycling.org.
