BREVARD, N.C. – Sophomore infielder Frankie Vasquez and freshman left-handed pitcher Connor Crosby earned Athlete of the Week honors from the USA South Conference following Brevard College's three-game conference sweep over Pfeiffer University last week.
Vasquez earned USA South Baseball Player of the Week honors, giving the Tornados consecutive player of the week awards for the first time this season, while Crosby was awarded Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors for the third time already this season.
Vasquez, a second-year Tornado from Pembroke Pines, Florida went a combined 8-for-10 (.800) with a .833 on-base percentage, and a 1.100 slugging percentage to go along with three runs scored, two RBI, three doubles, one sacrifice bunt, and two walks as the Tornados swept a three-game series from USA South foe Pfeiffer.
Vasquez, the 2022 USA South Conference Rookie of the Year, currently leads the entire conference with a .458 batting average. The sophomore has already scored 18 runs on 23 huts with eight doubles and a home run while driving in 20 RBIs.
Crosby, a first-year Tornado from Tampa, Florida tossed seven scoreless innings to grab a victory in his only appearance of the week for the Tornados, a 1-0 win over USA South foe Pfeiffer. Crosby allowed six hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
The southpaw leads the conference in wins with five and is undefeated so far in his collegiate career (5-0). Crosby has a complete game on his ledger in 38 innings pitched, struck out 33 batters, and maintained a 4.26 ERA with a 7.82 K/9 ratio.
The Tornados gear up for yet another big USA South series at home as Brevard hosts NC Wesleyan University on Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2 at Gil Coan Field. The series kicks off with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Crosby and Vasquez's honors gives BC a grand total of 48 weekly awards from the USA South so far in 2022-23.
