DEMOREST, Ga. - The Brevard College Tornados Baseball Team (3-6, 0-2 USAS) fell in a pair of seven-inning defeats at Piedmont College (8-2, 2-0 USAS) on Monday at Loudermilk Field in Demorest, Ga.

The Tornados fell to a Piedmont side who was picked to finish tied for second in the USA South Conference in the USA South Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The Tornados were playing in their first game since last Saturday, February 16, where they fell in a home doubleheader against Toccoa Falls.

GAME ONE

Kross Robinson started for the Tornados on the mound, where he struck out six batters in 2.2 innings pitched. However, Piedmont's high-octane offense put up five runs on Robinson, chasing him from the contest in the third inning.

Piedmont's Sam Carpenter pitched a gem, throwing five innings of shutout ball while only allowing one hit.

Five Piedmont hitters enjoyed multi-hit performances in the first contest on Monday, as the Lions posted 15 hits in total.

Brevard recorded two doubles in game one, as Holden Lanier and Matthew Kelley accounted for two of Brevard's four hits.

Josh Van Liew made his first hitting appearance of 2019, recording an RBI in the game's final inning.

Piedmont put up a lone run in the home half of the first inning. Neither side was able to muster a run in the second frame before the Lions broke the game open.

Piedmont posted back-to-back four-run innings in the third and fourth to push its lead to 9-0. The Lions struck for two more in the fifth before another four-run inning in the sixth. The Tornados scored their first run in the seventh as Piedmont coasted to a 15-1 victory.

GAME TWO

Freshman Matthew Scavotto got the starting nod in game two of Monday's twin bill, making his third-career collegiate start. For the second-straight game, Piedmont used a hot start to chase the Tornado starter early, as BC went to its bullpen in the first inning of game two.

The Lions capitalized on early walks to build a 7-0 lead after the first inning. Piedmont posted two runs in the second before a five-run third inning placed the game out of reach at 14-0. Both sides traded two-run innings down the stretch as BC fell 16-2 to close the doubleheader out.

Donny Carsillo got the start in left field in addition to batting leadoff. Carsillo went 2-for-4 with two hits and an RBI to lead Brevard. Beah Shealy added a hit, while Jason Jucker slapped an RBI double to round out Brevard's offensive efforts.

The Tornados will look to bounce back as they host a three-game, two-day conference we're against N.C. Wesleyan (3-3, 0-2 USAS) on March 2-3 at Gil Coan Field. BC and NCWC meet for a doubleheader on March 2 at 12 & 3 p.m. before wrapping action up on March 3 at 1 p.m.
