Baseball Goes on the Road to Face Covenant

BREVARD, N.C.- After falling in a close 9-8 decision on Montreat in their last outing, Brevard will travel to Lookout Mountain, Ga. to take on Covenant in a three-game series starting Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.

 Brevard (6-21) will be playing their first multi-game road series since March 17-18, when they swept Berea.

SCOUTING COVENANT

Covenant heads into the weekend with a 10-21 record, as the team split their two-game series with Sewanee on April 3. The Scots are led on the offensive side of the plate by Joel Johnson, who is first on the team in RBI (12), home runs (four) and slugging percentage (.557, mininum of 30 at-bats). On the mound, the trio of starting pitchers Taylor Bloye, Drew Bradley and Matt Reitz have combined for 143 strikeouts.

OFFENSE MAKING STRIDES

Despite their loss to Montreat, the Tornados' offensive production has been on the rise since March 10, as the batters have produced an average of 5.8 runs per game, and have averaged 7.5 runs per game in their four wins in that same span.

BLACK, TIMMS CONTINUE TO IMPRESS

In their 21 combined appearances on the mound, both Drake Black and Tyler Timms rank inside the top 25 across the NCAA Division III level in strikeouts with Black still on top with 79 K's this season. Timms has appeared on the mound 9 times this year and has logged an average of 5.9 strikeouts per game, with Black averaging 6.6 K's in his 12 pitching appearances.
