Maryville Completes Sweep of Brevard on Sunday Afternoon

BREVARD, N.C.- After resuming the second game of the series in the sixth inning, Maryville went on to win both games against Brevard on Sunday afternoon at Gil Coan Field.

The first game resumed in the bottom of the sixth inning at noon, because the game was suspended due to darkness from Saturday afternoon. Maryville (13-2) added one more run in the final three innings to take the first game 10-2. In the next game, Brevard (2-11) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before Maryville reeled off five unanswered runs over the course of three innings to take the 9-4 win in the second game.

Five different Tornados logged at least one RBI, with Donny Carsillo leading Brevard with two RBI in the two games. On the mound, Brevard led the strikeout margin (16-14) in the two games, with sophomore Kross Robinson leading both teams with six K's in his 4.1 innings of work in the first game.

In the first game, Brevard took the early 2-1 lead in the first inning after RBI from Carsillo and Roon. With the two RBI Carsillo recorded in the games today, the sophomore now leads the team in that category. Maryville would go on to score nine consecutive runs over the course of five innings, highlighted by the three-run fifth inning from the Scots.

Brevard also started the second game on top, when Christian Ezzell hit a sacrifice fly to right field which made the game 1-0 in the first inning. Senior Drake Black did not allow a hit in the first two innings of the game, and recorded three strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

Maryville had a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, when Brevard was able to cut the lead to two runs after two sacrifice flies from Joseph Nelms and Mikey Mejias. The Scots would pull away in the top of the ninth, as Maryville scored four runs to end the game.

Brevard will be on the road for seven straigh games, with the first contest coming against Southern Wesleyan on March 6th.
