Juarez and Sanchez of Brevard College Participating in NCAA Student Immersion Program

INDIANAPOLIS – Brevard College senior student-athletes Amy Juarez (Women's Soccer) and Jose "Fish" Sanchez (Men's Soccer) are participating in the 2021 NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program held this week in conjunction with the annual NCAA Convention.  This year's NCAA convention, along with the Division III Student Immersion program, is being held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Juarez is a senior midfielder on the BC Women's Soccer team from Arlington, Virginia.  Sanchez is a senior midfielder on the Brevard Men's Soccer team from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  Both Juarez and Sanchez are Business and Organizational Leadership majors, set to graduate this spring.

Juarez and Sanchez were two of just 40 total student-athletes selected for the program which is designed for ethnic minority students who have an interest in a career in NCAA Division III coaching or athletics administration.  Juarez and Sanchez will be exposed this week to a magnitude of Division III and general college athletics programming to help prepare them for a potential career in athletics.

The members of the immersion program will participate in programming specific to student-athletes and will have the opportunity to attend the legislative voting session. Juarez and Sanchez will also receive DiSC training, and participate in welcome and debrief meetings. The goal of the Immersion Program is to build a pipeline of talented ethnic minority candidates, with an interest in Division III coaching and/or administration, in an effort to ultimately diversify the division.

It marks the second straight season that Brevard College student-athletes were selected for the Student Immersion program as Josh Romero (Football) and Diana Loaiza (Women's Lacrosse) both attended last year's event.  Romero and Loaiza each went on to secure assistant coaching jobs at Brevard College following graduation.
