MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon Hawks (7-1, 3-0 USAS) used 17 points from Alex Lowry and a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) from Shaonica Thomas to extend its winning streak to five games, defeating the Brevard College Tornados Women's Basketball team (6-3, 2-2 USAS) by a final score of 73-55 on Sunday afternoon.

The Tornados were led by a double-double from freshman center Avery Lockwood. The Foxworth, Miss. native totaled a team-high 12 points and grabbed 11 boards in 20 minutes of action.

Taryn Ledford added 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting in reserve action for Brevard. Ledford hit two of the Tornados' three 3-pointers on the afternoon and dished out four assists and tallied two steals.

Senior guard Annalee Bollinger added nine points to Brevard's efforts, shooting 3-of-13 from the field.

Sophomore guard Deja Riddick hit a pair of free throws early in the first quarter to give the Tornados a 2-1 lead, however, the Hawks would take the lead at the 8:27 in the first quarter and never relinquished it.

Huntingdon was very opportunistic with the turnovers that it forced. The Hawks forced 18 turnovers and capitalized for 21 points off turnovers on the afternoon. The Hawks perimeter defense only allowed the Tornados to take nine total 3-pointers (3-of-9), which is a season-low for Brevard.

The Hawks held a 37-23 advantage at the half and used a quick 8-1 scoring run to push their lead over the 20-point mark in the third stanza. Huntingdon closed out the third quarter with an 11-1 run to push its lead to a game-high 26 points.

Brevard enjoyed a solid outing from its reserves, who turned in 30 points in the contest.

The Tornados will have five days off before hosting the defending USA South Conference champion Piedmont Lions (7-3, 2-0 USAS) on Saturday, December 15 at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
