Five Tornados Finish in Top-15, Men Take Second at Mike & Mary Kay Invitational in Berea

BEREA, Ky. - The Brevard College men's and women's cross country teams enjoyed success at the Mike & Mary Kay Johnson Invitational in Berea, Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.

Brevard's men's team finished second overall with 46 points, while five Tornados (three men, two women) earned top-15 finishes at the event.

Zoe Capps led the women's side with an eighth-place finish and a 22:29.41 result, while Sandra Diaz-Martinez placed 12th with a 22:54.19 time. Haylea-Layne Miller rounded out the women's team's efforts with a 20th-place result of 23:36.34.

Devon Brodmyer led the men's team in fourth place with a time of 27:57.57, with Dalton Hawley right on his heels in fifth place at 27:57.92. Garrett Spangler was the third Tornado in the top 10, finishing seventh with a 28:20.78 time.

Justin King (17th, 30:08.36), Michael Fader (22nd, 31:34.66), Blayne Morton (28th, 32:02.84), George Wells (30th, 32:15.81), and Anthony Padillo (51st, 41:04.01) also competed for the Tornados.

Brevard's squads were ranked in the top four in the first bi-weekly USA South Conference Cross Country polls, with BC's men's team ranked second and the women's side finishing fourth.

BC is next in action on Friday, October 7 in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Royals XC Challenge hosted by Queens University of Charlotte.
