Tornados Dominate Singles Play to Take Win over Scots

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (3-2) dominated singles competition to take a 7-2 win over host Maryville (0-5) on Saturday afternoon in Maryville, Tennessee.

After trailing 2-1 following doubles competition, the Tornados swept the Scots in singles play to earn the comeback victory.  In singles, Brevard did not lose a set as five players recorded straight-set victories with a sixth victory coming via forfeit.
 
BC's number one singles player Hannah Hersh took the first set 6-4 over MC's Katelyn Cook. Hersh and Cook then battled in a competitive second set with the Tornado sophomore taking a clutch 7-5 second set victory.
 
Brevard senior Brooke Garland cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 win in no. 2 singles.  Sophomore Sophie Trantham won 6-3, 6-2 in number three singles.  Senior Hamrick Perry made easy work of her opponent with a 6-1, 6-0 win in no. 4 singles, while junior Melody Ferguson produced a 6-3, 6-4 win in the fifth slot.  Freshman Savannah Anderson won via forfeit in number six singles.
 
Maryville won in both number one and number two doubles to put early pressure on Brevard.  The Tornados did manage a win by way of forfeit in no. 3 doubles. 
 
Brevard next heads to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina to compete in four matches beginning Monday vs. Catholic University.
