BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (1-0) swept non-conference foe Johnson & Wales (0-1) 9-0 on a windy Friday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.

The Tornados ran through doubles play with three decisive match wins, outscoring the Wildcats 24-8.  BC then won every singles match, dropping just one set.  The number one through four positions were especially dominant for the Tornados who won 48 of the 54 games played in the top-four singles matches.

Sophomore Hannah Hersh led the charge for the Tornados with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jacqueline Rodgers in no. 1 singles.  That followed an 8-3 win in no. 1 doubles with her teammate Alli Kogoy

Kogoy, a senior from Boone, North Carolina, took care of business herself in singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the number two position.

Senior Brooke Garland won number three singles 6-0, 6-1, while sophomore Sophie Trantham won by an identical score in no. 4 singles.  Garland and Trantham combined as a tandem in no. 2 doubles where they posted an 8-3 victory.

The number three doubles team of Hamrick Perry and freshman Savannah Anderson won their match 8-2 to stake a 3-0 lead for Brevard after doubles competition.

In number five singles, Perry, a senior from Hendersonville, North Carolina, won 6-3, 6-2.  Junior Melody Ferguson then squared off against JWU's Erin Weidner for the most dramatic match of the day.  With the match going to a tiebreaker after being tied through two sets, Ferguson prevailed 10-6 to complete the sweep for the Tornados.

Brevard will return to action on Wednesday vs. Piedmont at the McCoy Tennis Complex.  First serve is set for 2 p.m.
