Tornados Honor Seniors, Cruise to 8-1 Victory over Agnes Scott

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's tennis team (3-4, 3-4 USAS) honored seniors Mekenzie Bowman, Margaret Correll, and Jen Cox in a special pre-match ceremony before cruising to an 8-1 triumph over Agnes Scott College (0-7, 0-7 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.

Brevard claimed all three doubles matches before taking 5-of-6 singles decisions in its final USA South Conference match of the 2021 season.

Seniors Correll and Cox teamed up in the top-flight doubles spot, defeating Agnes Scott's Fabiola Garcia and Jacy Pippin in emphatic fashion, 8-1. Fellow senior Bowman paired up with sophomore Hamrick Perry in the no. 2 doubles match, defeating Trestin Artkaxa and Katiuska Toral Casti, 8-3, as Brooke Garland and Alli Kogoy won the third doubles competition by default.

BC's trio of seniors were placed in the top-three spots in singles competition, as Cox, Correll, and Bowman lined up 1-3, respectfully. Correll won number-two singles, 6-3, 6-1, while Bowman cruised in the number-three slot, 6-1, 6-0. Garland swept no. 4 singles vs. Toral Casti, 6-0, 6-0, as Kogoy and Perry took the final two singles matches by default.

Bowman, a senior from Franklin, North Carolina majoring in Psychology, with a double minor in Criminal Justice and Education, has now accumulated nine singles and 10 doubles victories during her time on the courts at Brevard College.

Correll, a senior from Salisbury, North Carolina majoring in English, with concentrations in Journalism and Professional Communication and a minor in Business and Organizational Leadership, has accumulated 13 singles and 18 doubles wins now at BC.

Cox, a senior from West Islip, New York majoring in Art, with a concentration in Photography and Time-Based Media and a minor in Business and Organizational Leadership, has racked up 11 singles and 21 doubles victories in her BC career.

The Tornados will conclude their 2021 campaign next Saturday, April 24 when both the men's and women's teams match up against Pfeiffer at 1 p.m. at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
