Women’s Tennis Closes Out Orlando Trip with Victories over St. Francis and Marywood

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (6-4) closed out its Spring Break trip on Thursday with two victories, a 5-4 win over The University of St. Francis and claiming a 7-2 triumph over Marywood University at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida. 

The victories conclude a 3-1 stretch for the Tornados in their four matches played at the Spring Break Sports Tournament. BC's men's and women's teams played contests at the USTA National Training Center and the Lake Cane Tennis Center.

Sepe and Farr continued their dominance in number-one singles play against St. Francis, earning an 8-3 victory over St. Francis' number-one pairing. Freshman Hamrick Perry and Alli Kogoy cruised to an 8-1 doubles win to give the Tornados a 2-1 match lead heading into doubles action. 

Sepe kicked off singles action with a dominant sweep, 6-0, 6-0. Sarah Iocovozzi and Margaret Correll clinched the match victory, as Iocovozzi dominated with a 6-1, 6-0, while Correll cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 number-six singles win that clinched the match for Brevard. 

The Tornados then took on Marywood University later in the evening, sweeping through doubles and taking four-out-of-six singles matches for the 7-2 team victory. 

Number-one doubles duo Sepe and Farr cruised to an 8-2 victory, while Correll and Jen Cox claimed an 8-5 triumph in the number-two slot. Freshman duo Kogoy and Perry won, 8-1, in the final doubles match to complete the doubles sweep, as the Tornados took an early match lead, 3-0. 

Sepe dominated in the number-one singles spot, sweeping Marywood's Danielle Ogonowski, 6-0, 6-0. Kogoy swept the first set, 6-0, in her second-seeded singles match before winning the second set, 6-3.

Perry won her number-four singles match, 6-2, 6-4, while Iocovozzi claimed a sweep in her number-five singles competition, 6-0, 6-0. 

TENNIS SCHEDULE UPDATE: Due to the ever-changing and constantly-evolving landscape of the collegiate athletics landscape due to the pandemic of COVID-19, several USA South institutions have announced changes to their spring schedules. As a result of opposing institutional decisions, Brevard's upcoming matches this season against Berea College, Covenant College, and Huntingdon College.  have all been canceled for BC men's and women's tennis.
