Siu scores four goals in 16-7 season finale loss to Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. - Despite four goals and two assists from junior Nina Siu (Greensboro, N.C.) the Brevard College Tornados (3-19) dropped their season finale to the Lees-McRae Bobcats (4-9) by a final of 16-7.

Siu led the way for the Tornados as the junior completed the season as the Tornados leading goal scorer with 37 goals, while adding a team-high 41 assists. Siu's incredible 2017 campaign moves the Greensboro, N.C. native past the 100-point total for her career, becoming just the second player in school history to eclipse the century mark. Siu concludes the season third overall in the South Atlantic Conference with 41 assists, while her 78 points rank second overall and her 37 goals rank tied for 11th-place.

In addition to Siu's offensive outburst, the Tornados also added scores by Victoria Hayes (Freehold, N.J) and Micaiah Vacchiano (Sebastian, Fla.), as Hayes finishes the year second on the team with 33 goals, while Vacchiano wraps up her freshman campaign tied for third-overall on the team with 17 goals.

For the Bobcats, Peyton LeCompte finished the night with a game-high six goals, while Sara Henderson added four scores. In addition to LeCompte and Henderson, Tiffany Laster added three goals and three assists, while Callie Gregg added three goals of her own, as the quartet accounted for all of Lees-McRae's scoring.

Junior Shebly Arsenault (Shallow Lake, Ontario) battled in net for the Tornados as the veteran backstop saved 13 of 29 shot attempts. Completing the season tops in the SAC with 182 saves and tied for fifth-place with a 45.4 save percentage.

Lees-McRae split time in net, as Doyna Decesare got the start, saving five of 10 shot attempts in 38-minutes, while Samantha Thomson saved four of six attempts in 22-minutes in goal.

The Bobcats edged out the Tornados 33-18 on shot attempts, while the Tornados finished 17-21 on clear attempts and collected 10 of 23 draw controls.

Following a Lees-McRae score to begin the contest, Siu collected a feed from junior Livia Harrienger (Watertown, N.Y.) to even the contest at 1-1.

The Bobcats countered with three unanswered scores to take a 4-1 lead, before Siu struck for her second goal of the game, trimming the lead to 4-2 with 19:12 remaining in the first half.

However, Lees-McRae added five goals over a 14-minute span to increase their lead to 9-2 with 5:22 remaining in the opening frame.

Siu added her third goal of the half at the 5:04 mark, while Hayes connected on her lone goal for the contest off a Siu assist with three seconds remaining in the opening half.

The Bobcats added three more goals to open the second half to increase their lead to 12-4, before Siu netted her fourth and final score of the afternoon off another Harrienger assist.
