Hayes and Siu power Brevard to a 14-12 win over Reinhardt

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Women's Lacrosse Team (2-9) defeated Reinhardt University (6-8) by a score of 14-12 on Saturday night with the help of six goals from junior Victoria Hayes (Freehold, N.J.) and six assists by junior Nina Siu (Greensboro, N.C.).

Brevard took control of the game early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. Freshman Micaiah Vacchiano (Sebastian, Fla.) started the scoring spree with a goal in the opening minute off a pass from Siu. Roughly eight minutes later, Siu would find Hayes for a goal to give Brevard a 2-0 lead. Livia Harrienger (Watertown, N.Y.) fired two passes for assists to Siu and Vacchiano for Brevard's next two points.

Aliyah Bryant put the Eagles on the board with just under ten minutes remaining in the first half of play. Stephanie Grove was credited with the assist. Reinhardt evened the score up at six-all with under three minutes remaining in the game, as Aliyah Bryant scored on a man-up situation. The game would go into halftime tied.

Nina Siu came out of halftime scoring back-to-back goals and then found Hayes for her fourth assist of the day to give Brevard a three-point cushion. Gina Ives and Kelley Freire tacked on two more goals for Reinhardt to push the score to 9-8.

With under ten minutes, remaining in the contest Aliyah Bryant tied the game up with an unassisted goal. Brevard did not let the pressure get to them, as junior Kelly Kearnan (Morrisville, N.C.) hit a free position shot to give Brevard the one-point advantage. Nina Siu tacked on the Tornados final goal to make the final score 14-12.

Tornados' goalie Shelby Arsenault (Shallow Lake, Ontario) tallied 14 saved in goal tonight, the junior also scooped up six ground balls. The Tornados forced ten Eagles turnovers with Micaiah Vacchiano forcing three, and Siu and Hunter Denney (Pisgah Forest, N.C.) each with a pair of caused turnovers.

Brevard will take this momentum into this weekend as they return to conference play. The Tornados will host Catawba College on Sunday, April 9, at 7 p.m.
