Tornados drop 18-3 decision to Bears on the road

HICKORY, N.C. - The Brevard College Women's Lacrosse team (1-7, 0-4 SAC) dropped an 18-3 decision on the road to the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears (7-3, 4-1 SAC), Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference lacrosse action.

The Tornados were led by the play of junior Nina Siu (Greensboro, N.C.) who finished with a team-high two goals, while fellow junior Kelly Kearnan (Morrisville, N.C.) added a lone score. Junior Brittany Fisk (Waterloo, N.Y.) finished the contest with two forced turnovers and two ground balls, while junior goalie Shelby Arsenault (Shallow Lake, Ontario) added five saves.

Lenoir-Rhyne was paced by Gabby Sousa who collected a game-high four goals, while Torrey Schwitkis, Rachel Elmore, and Christine Faircloth each finished with two scores apiece. Additionally, the Bears finished the contest with 12 players finding the back of the net, while controlling a slight 14-8 turnover margin.

Brevard would take the lead just under a minute and a half into the contest as Siu found the back of the net for her 17th score of the season.

The Bears would answer with three scores of their own to take a 3-1 advantage with just over 20 minutes remaining in the opening half.

The Tornados would pull back within one score on another Siu net finder, however, L-R would close out the opening half with 11 unanswered scores to take a controlling 14-2 advantage into the half.

The Bears added on two more unanswered scores to open the second frame, before Kearnan broke the Tornados scoreless streak with her 10th score of the season.

L-R used two more second half scores to take the final 18-3 lead and improve to 4-1 in league play this season.

The Tornados will return to the BC Turf this coming Wednesday, Mar. 29 as they host the Newberry Wolves with first draw scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.
