Tornados fall 18-4 to Coker

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Women's Lacrosse team (1-5, 0-2 SAC) lost their conference opener against Coker (5-1) by a score of 18-4 on Saturday afternoon.

The Tornados scoring was spread throughout as four different players contributed to Brevard's points. Nina Siu (Greensboro, N.C.) found the net as well as recorded two assists for the Tornados. Siu and Victoria Hayes (Freehold, N.J.) led Brevard with four shots for the day. Hayes added a goal to the Tornados' total as well. Freshman Micaiah Vacchiano (Sebastian, Fla.) and Junior Kelly Kearnan (Morrisville, N.C.) were the other two scorers for Brevard.

Junior goalie Shelby Arsenault (Shallow Lake, Ontario) was charged with the loss in goal. Arsenault came away with nine saves on the day, while facing 31 shots from Coker. The Tornados defense did force five Coker turnovers during the match.

Coker's Haley McCusker led the charge for the Cobra's scoring seven goals on nine shots. McCusker also had three assists. Faith Kent led Coker with five assists and netted three goals. Cobra's goalie Cassie Williams played all sixty minutes, recording six saves and only allowing four goals.

The Tornados got on the board first, as Siu found Kearnan to give Brevard the early edge. The Cobra's went on a scoring surge, recording the next nine goals before Siu would find Victoria Hayes to make the score 9-2 with eight minutes remaining in the half.

Coker would enter halftime with a 13-2 advantage. The Cobras did not let up in the second half of play, as they came out of halftime, scoring the first three goals. Nina Siu would beat the defense to score the Tornados third goal of the day. Vacchiano tacked on Brevard's final point with a little under seven minutes remaining in the game, with an unassisted goal.

Brevard will have a week off to prepare for the No. 8 team in the nation, Queens University. The Tornados will travel to Charlotte on Saturday, March 18 for a matchup beginning at 4 p.m.
