GREENEVILLE, TENN. - The Brevard College Tornados Women's Lacrosse team (0-3, 0-1 SAC) dropped their South Atlantic Conference opener Tuesday afternoon by a final of 17-7, on the road against the Tusculum College Pioneers (3-2, 1-0 SAC).

Offensively, the Tornados were led by juniors Victoria Hayes (Freehold, N.J.), Nina Siu (Greensboro, N.C.) and Kelly Kearnan (Morrisville, N.C.), who each finished with a pair of goals apiece, while Siu added two assists. Junior Brittany Fisk (Waterloo, N.Y.) accounted for the remaining Brevard goal as the defender also dished out an assist.

For the Pioneers, Hayley Bartlett finished with a game-high four scores and three assists, while Savannah Elliott also found the back of the Tornados net on four separate occasions. Additionally, Madison Malone dished out three assists and six other Pioneers added goals in the decision.

Tusculum would open Tuesday's conference opener on a 7-0 run, before Kearnan collected a pass form Siu that allowed the junior to put the Tornados on the board with 15:37 remaining in the first half.

Just under two minutes later, Siu would collect her second assist, finding Hayes to pull Brevard with five scores of Tusculum at 7-2.

The Pioneers would add three more net finders between the 11th and 8th minutes to extend their lead to 10-2, before Hayes would score her second goal of the afternoon off a free position attempt with 3:21 remaining.

However, Tusculum would add three goals in the final minute of the opening frame to take a 13-3 lead into the break.

Similar to first half fashion, the Pioneers began the second half on a 3-0 run to take a controlling 16-3 lead, as Fisk scored a man up goal for the Tornados at 19:57 to but the blue and white on the board in the second half.

Following a Tusculum man up goal at 10:54, the Tornados would end the contest on a 3-0 run as Siu added two late goals and Kearnan found net on a pass from Fisk to cut the Pioneers lead to 17-7. However, the damage had already been done as the Tornados were unable to overcome a 10-goal deficit in the final two minutes to muster a comeback.

Brevard will look to pick up their first win of the 2017 season this coming Saturday, March 4, as they host future USA South member Huntingdon for a 1 p.m. draw at the Brevard Soccer Field.
