Women's Lacrosse falls to Emmanuel, 13-9

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Women's Lacrosse (0-2) team dropped their home opener to Emmanuel College (1-2) 13-9 on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Victoria Hayes (Freehold, N.J.) led Brevard in scoring with four goals on the day. Junior Kat Harrienger (Watertown, N.Y.) added a pair of goals for the Tornados. Nina Siu (Greensboro, N.C.) was credited with a pair of assists.

The Tornados defense caused ten turnovers against the Lions. Freshman Micaiah Vacchiano (Sebastian, Fla.), Darden King (Raleigh, N.C.), Hayes and Brittany Fisk (Waterloo, N.Y.) each caused two turnovers. Fisk led the Tornados with four groundballs and Vacchiano scooped up three groundballs for the blue and white.

Junior goalkeeper Shelby Aresenault (Shallow Lake, Ontario) had 14 saves on the day while giving up 13 goals. Lions' goalkeeper Emma Pow earned the win for Emmanuel, playing 30 minutes, while allowing four goals and earning two saves.

Hayes put Brevard on the board at the 26:56 mark in the first half to make the score 1-1. Emmanuel would answer back with two quick goals, before Siu beat the defense to score at the 20:35 mark. The Lions would have a 6-4 advantage going into halftime.

Brevard would make the game exciting in the second half as Kat Harrienger scored off a pass from Nina Siu to make the score 9-8 with 11:32 remaining in the game. The Lions would end the threat, scoring the next three goals. Emmanuel closed out the game, scoring a goal with 31 seconds left in the game to win 13-9.

The Tornados will take a brief hiatus before returning to the field on March 1, as they travel to Tusculum their first conference game, beginning at 6 p.m.
