Kiprono places 4th in Men's 5000M at JCSU Invite

CHAROLETTE, N.C.- Junior Hassan Kiprono (Iten, Kenya) finished behind two University of North Carolina competitors and Haregot Gebreyesus of Benedict to take fourth place in the Men's 5000M Run at the JCSU Invitational on Saturday.

Kiprono and the rest of the Brevard College track team traveled to Charlotte on Saturday to compete at the Johnson C. Smith University Invitational in their final meet before the SAC conference championships. Kiprono ran a 16:33.24 to capture the fourth place spot out of nine competitors.

Jordan Lance (Panama City Beach, Fla.) competed in the Men's 1500M race, running a 4:48.40 to finish 14th overall to represent Brevard in the mid-distance event.

In the sprinting competition, senior Marlowe Macklin (Brown Summit, N.C.) finished in 21st place in the Men's 100M dash out of 49 competitors. Macklin ran an 11.16. Jordan Brown also ran the 100M dash, finishing with a time of 12.00. Freshman Michael Anton (Mt. Ulla, N.C.) ran a 53.12 in the Men's 400M dash.

On the women's side, Courtney Perkins (Taboro, N.C.) placed 18th out of 31 in the Women's 800M run with a time of 2:37.69. Elena Raygoza (Palmdale, Calif.) and Mary Gray Davis (Raleigh, N.C.) both raced in the Women's 1500 run. Raygoza finished with a time of 5:54.04 while Davis followed with a 6:54.54.

The Tornados will have a week off to prepare for the South Atlantic Conference Championships held on April 14-15 in Hickory N.C.
